Jibb "Insomnia" - RAAW of the Month June
Do you know the feeling of being undecided? Some decisions are easy, others give you sleepless nights. That's how Julia felt when she was searching for her new mountain bike. Just under a year ago, she got hooked on mountain biking; the sport, the community and the tech fascinated her immediately.
When looking for a new, reliable companion, sustainability was at the top of the list. Carbon was out of the question - following the sustainability aspect, she informed herself about steel and aluminium frames. Quickly our Jibb was on the shortlist, but at the same time questions arose: "Is the bike too heavy? Is it perhaps too potent? Can I even assemble the bike myself?"
After a few sleepless nights, Julia made the decision to buy a Jibb frame on the second-hand market. Since she wanted to do the assembly herself, practical details like externally routed cables and a threaded BSA bottom bracket were decisive. In the next step, she carefully selected all the components so that she could soon start with her first mountain bike build.
"The build was very exciting and educational because it allowed me to understand, or at least take a closer look at, all the mechanisms and refined technical details. It was almost like I had already built a relationship with the Jibb before I even rode it on the trails. "Wrenching is fun!"
"I looked for components that were either used or in stock, of good quality and suitable for my riding. The fork was available at the same time as the frame and was travelled down to 150mm. The two-piston brakes and the single-ply tyres reduce the weight a little. Fortunately, the Jibb pedals very well uphill and the initial concerns that it might be too heavy were quickly gone!"
"What always excites me about mountain biking is hard to put into words. I think it's the total switch-off, the holistic sport aspect and the adventure character that always captivates me!"
Julia's journey as a mountain biking newbie has inspired us and shown us that our sport has many facets, from technical enthusiasm to community and adventure. We wish Julia many wonderful adventures with her Jibb, proudly nicknamed "Insomnia". Even if the sleepless nights are a thing of the past.
